USST International Students Culture Festival 2014 Kicked off

On December 11, the opening ceremony of USST International Students Culture Festival 2014 was held in the university Music Hall. MS.Tian Weifeng, the vice president attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Also present at the opening ceremony were responsible persons of relevant functional departments and the colleges, as well as the international and Chinese students representatives of our school.

Our five international students co-hosted the opening ceremony, greeted everyone respectively in Chinese, English, Ukrainian, and Arabic and jointly brought the performance of Chinese Hymn,Century Glory, Beautiful USST,which praised the alma mater, also the silver voice and deep feeling moved the audience on site. Afterwards, they played the propaganda film of International Students Culture Festival 2014, introducing various cultural experience activities, social practice activities, cultural and sports events, Model United Nations, Welcome Party, etc. In the joint performance, Chinese culture perfectly blended with the western culture, many performances impressed the audience and won repeated applause, for example, Chinese Quintessence Sichuan Opera "changing countenance", Acrobatics “Jujitsu”, and the original love music by German student, collective song, Our Dear Country by Mongolian students, Guzheng performance by Vietnamese student, dance performance by Kazakhstan student, jump rope performance by German student, etc.

After the opening ceremony, all teachers and students walked to the Great Lawn outside the Hujiang Cultural Park to see the "I view China, you view the world", the exhibition stand garden party of each country and"Beauideal, the tongue tip world", the diet culture exhibition of each country. This Garden Party totally set up 23 pavilions, including Greater China Pavilion (Chinese Mainland Pavilion, China Hong Kong Pavilion, China Macao Pavilion, China Taiwan Pavilion), Nepal Pavilion, Sweden and Estonia Pavilion,Mongolia Pavilion, France Pavilion, Germany Pavilion, Kenya Pavilion, Laos Pavilion, Vietnam Pavilion, Kazakhstan Pavilion, Arabian Pavilion, Burma Pavilion, Cambodia Pavilion, South Korea Pavilion, the Central African Republic Pavilion, Mexico Pavilion, Bangladesh Pavilion, Dominica Pavilion, Trinidad and Tobago Pavilion. Each foreign pavilion was meticulously designed and arranged by students from the corresponding country, and strong exoticism impressed each student visitor.

The Cultural Festival, as a good Sino-foreign cultural exchange platform, drives the foreign students as well as the domestic teachers and students to share the charm of the harmonious world,promotes international cultural exchanges, and enhances better understanding of various cultures. It is a window not only to understand the Chinese culture but also to show exotic customs. This Cultural Festival specially pays attention to enable international students to experience the Chinese culture, sense China and blend into China, make them fit into the learning and life here, promote the mutual understanding and communication between domestic and foreign students, as well as thought and wisdom collision, in addition, give domestic and foreign students a chance to experience the exotic culture, appreciate the exotic customs, improve the artistic appreciation, enliven the campus atmosphere and rich campus culture in an easy way apart from intense learning.

In recent years, with the continuous development of the education of foreign students in our university, there has been 11 colleges and 58 majors now that carry out education of foreign students, including 31 undergraduate majors, 18 majors for master's degree and 9 majors for doctor's degree. This year, the number of new foreign students enrollment has been in substantial growth, furthermore, the educational background structure, and the student source qualities such as Chinese level and source universities of the foreign students have also been improved greatly.
