School at a Glance

The predecessor of the School of Environment and Architecture was the Department of Urban Construction and Environmental Sciences, which was established on March 27, 1996. On April 27,1997, the School of Urban Construction and Environmental Sciences was established. On May 12, 1997, it was renamed as “College of Urban Construction and Environmental Engineering”.


At present, the college has 3 departments, 3 research centers and 1 experimental center, namely: Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering, Research Center for Energy and Environmental Pollution Control, Research Center for Environmental and Low Carbon Science, Research Center for Environmental Engineering and Experimental Center of the School of Environment and Architecture. The Experimental Center of the School of Environment and Architecture has 3 laboratories: Environmental Engineering Laboratory, Civil Engineering Laboratory, and Building Environment and Energy Engineering Laboratory.


In addition, there are 6 virtual scientific research institutes, namely the Environmental Engineering Research Institute, the Institute of Structural Testing and Reinforcement Engineering, the Institute of Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Engineering, the Institute of Building Energy Efficiency Technology, the Institute of Building Materials, and the Green Community Development Research Center.


The college’s professional disciplines cover two first-level disciplines environmental science and engineering and civil engineering, one doctoral program of “Energy and Environmental Engineering”, and two master's degree programs of “Environmental Science and Engineering” and “Civil Engineering”. There are 8 secondary disciplines, namely "Environmental Science", "Environmental Engineering", "Geotechnical Engineering", "Structural Engineering", "Bridge and Tunnel Engineering", "Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Protection Engineering", "Municipal Engineering", and "Heating, Gas Supply, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Engineering" . There are 2 master's professional engineering degree programs in the fields of "Architectural and Civil Engineering" and "Environmental Engineering", and 3 undergraduate majors: “Environmental Engineering”, “Civil Engineering”, “Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering”.


By the end of 2015, the college has 96 faculty members, 83 full-time teachers, and 11 professors, accounting for 13.3% of the faculty. Among them, there are 28 associate professors, accounting for 34% of the faculty; 42 intermediate title teachers, accounting for 51%. There are 70 teachers with doctoral degree, accounting for 84.3%, including 17 doctors from prestigious universities overseas, accounting for 20.5%, and 43 doctors from famous domestic universities, accounting for 51.8%. Meanwhile,
the college also introduces 5 talents with flexibility, including 1 high-level foreign expert selected by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, 1 national 863 expert, 1 shanghai famous overseas teacher plan, and 1 expert of oriental scholar program.
